This Week
The good news: It’s been over 48 hours, and I haven’t yet fallen into the “oh, sure, I got tenure, but what have I done for me lately?” that usually develops mighty quickly.
The bad news: It’s pre-registration week, and the last week of classes, and I’ve been so busy that I haven’t found a minute to glow, much less celebrate.
It is possible that these two things are not unconnected. A celebration deferred is perhaps a celebration prolonged.

a professor here recently got full tenure, and i commented to him that i was impressed that he seemed so together and so professionally attired. i told him that if i ever got a guarantee that i’d never be fired, i would most likely cease to be recognizably human–that i would probably wear a ratty t-shirt, shut down most of my voluntary brain functions, and watch television for a few weeks.
i think he was shocked by my inane comments.
all of which is to say: congratulations.

i am a bit late coming in but it seems that some congratulation is in order. Well done on getting tenure.
