Thank you, Kathleen. It reads as well – as meaningfully – as you delivered it. Too bad it could not have been published alongside the Kenyon address. You reveal David’s frontal assault on the “default mode” and the consequences that had for his teaching as well as his writing. And what you say about your semester puts all of this in a context David would like.

For me it was when we took the picture on the steps for the departing administrator. I thought: I miss him so much even though I have really no right to. It’s like we lost a limb.
