If you really want to kill some time, try picking up his Baroque cycle. At over 3000 pages, it was just arbitrarily divided into 3 books. It’s one story.
Fantastically entertaining… but you can tell that Stephenson is selling books well enough that he can ignore his editor when he/she suggests that the 47 page aside on Newtonian physics is not strictly necessary from plot/caracter devlopment viewpoint.

Hey, Rich. I’ve had Quicksilver sitting on my desk since it came out, but haven’t gotten around to starting it. Or even buying parts two and three, only because the task of reading them seems so daunting. That said, daunting is good. I’m hoping to read them early this summer…
