I finished yesterday.  Filed the grades and everything.  Summer began today.

I’m leaving aside the part where it began with jackhammers outside my bedroom window at 7.30 am, a fact about which I wish I were kidding.  Instead, I’m going to say that summer began with my finally finishing up the article whose deadline I managed to blow by over four full months.

It has been sent out.  And I am free like a bird.

Once I write the program’s end-of-year report, which I’ll knock out tomorrow.  After that, there’s three blissful months ahead of me thinking about absolutely nothing other than what I want to think about.

And the fun part will be getting to spend time figuring out what it is that I want to think about.

I may have gotten tenure eighteen months ago, but the kicking of total ass has at last officially commenced.
