But One More Thing
This, I can’t resist (from a wire story on Salon:
“Bureaucracy has murdered people in the greater New Orleans area. And bureaucracy needs to stand trial before Congress today,” Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish, said on CBS’ “The Early Show.”
“So I’m asking Congress, please investigate this now. Take whatever idiot they have at the top of whatever agency and give me a better idiot. Give me a caring idiot. Give me a sensitive idiot. Just don’t give me the same idiot.”

I actually saw this on TV this morning, which is strange since I never watch network news (or “news” in this case). It’s actually much better in text–the footage made it clear that the guy was hamming it up for the reporter, who was dutifully pretending to crack up at this crazy character gesticulating around about the hilarious straits they’re in down there. I dunno, I thought it was pretty weird when he went on to essentially use people’s deaths as the setup for the punchline of a joke about Broussard’s being the catcher in a metaphorical baseball game, awaiting a pitch.

The other thing that’s bad is that this guy emerged as an icon for lefty typed who articulated the magnitude of the Bush failure better than anyone ever had. And now? With this emphasis on red tape? Playing right into the Bush admin’s PR pushback campaign.

Oops. That should be “types and”
